Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 71358

This specimen was lot 71358 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. 2 Francs, 1810-M. Toulouse Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS VF-35. The only representative of this SCARCE type in the PCGS census, the present minor displays even circulation as well as an olive-gray hue across both sides. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from iNumis in 2011 for $2,270 [!]) Ex: iNumis 16 (10/2011) Lot # 887." This type was struck 1809-14 during the reign of Napoleon I from numerous mints. Many issues of this type are known from a handful (<10) of examples.

Recorded mintage: 11,078[2].

Specification: 27 mm diameter, 10 grams, 0.900 fine silver, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.
