The first specimen was lot 20447 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Anaheim, CA, August 2016), where it sold for $493.50. The catalog description[2] noted, "FRANCE. 5 Franc, 1810-L. PCGS AU-55 Secure Holder. Tulip privy mark. CONDITION RARITY. Much better mint and in phenomenal condition, with bold hair and laureates along with plenty of luster. Light to moderate toning." The third specimen was lot 71215 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $3,904. The catalog description[3] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. 5 Francs, 1810-L. Bayonne Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS Genuine--Tooled, AU Details. Variety with mintmark on the left. A RARER variant in which the mintmark is on the left as opposed to the right, this crown remains largely without any signs of circulation and offers some enticing toning, though a few scattered scratches on the obverse account for the designation. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Kreisberg in 1976 for $151). Ex: Abner Kreisberg (2/1976) Lot # 1849." Le Franc notes that there was a change in mintmasters midyear, with Pierre Boniface Darripe succeeding his father Pierre Romain Darripe, and the event was marked by flipping the positions of the mintmark and privy mark. The mintmark "L" resumed its normal position in 1811.

Recorded mintage: 164,036 (mintmark to left of date) plus 20,979 (mintmark to right of date)[1].

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, edge lettered GARANTIE NATIONALE, designed by Augustin Dupré (1748-1833).

Catalog reference: Dav-85, F.307/20; KM-694.9; Gad-584. The third specimen is F.307/21.
