Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 71359

This specimen was lot 71359 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $504. The catalog description^[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. 2 Francs, 1810-Q. Perpignan Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, Fine Details. Cleaned and heavily circulated, this type nevertheless remains rather RARE and difficult, with Margolis noting that one was '...lacking in Thys and Sobin colls.' From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from CGF in 2006 for $829). Ex: Comptoir Général Financier XXVI (6/2006) Lot # 1371." This type was struck 1809-14 during the reign of Napoleon I from numerous mints. Many issues of this type are known from a handful (<10) of examples.

Recorded mintage: 4,845^[2].

Specification: 27 mm diameter, 10 grams, 0.900 fine silver, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.
