This specimen was lot 73384 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. 5 Francs, 1811-I. Limoges Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS AU-58. The finest of just three examples of the date and mint seen at PCGS, this wholesome crown from the later years in the reign of Napoleon presents an attractive gunmetal gray hue along with some champagne-olive hints accentuating the devices." All silver five francs were officially recalled in 1928 but ceased to circulate after World War I. This coin was legal tender in the United States until 1857 at a value of 93 cents. This date, a product of the Limoges mint, while not rare, is priced about double the 1811-A.
