Jean Elsen sale 155, lot 1733

This specimen was lot 1733 in Jean Elsen sale 155 (Brussels, June 2023), where it sold for €130 (about US$170 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Napoléon Ier (1804-1814), AR 5 francs, 1811 Q, Perpignan. Nettoyé. Très Beau. (empire of France, Napoleon I, 1804-14, five francs of 1811, Perpignan mint. Cleaned, Very Fine.)"

This type was struck during the reign of Napoleon (1809-14) from numerous mints. This specimen, from the Perpignan mint, is a fairly common date but is scarce compared to the 1811-A (over 31 million minted).

Recorded mintage: 1,212,418.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, 37 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE, designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier.
