France 1812-B 5 francs
This specimen was lot 20458 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[2] noted, "FRANCE. 5 Franc, 1812-B. Rouen Mint. NGC MS-63. Lightly toned with a strike that is nearly complete and enchanting luster that helps to enliven the surfaces. Laudable for its lack of planchet flaw or adjustment mark as well, both of which frequently influence the eye appeal. Underrated as a date in top grade with this coin being tied with one other example (at NGC) for the finest graded at either NGC or PCGS." This type was struck 1809-14 in large quantities. It is the most common Napoleonic coin.
Specification: 37 mm diameter, 25 grams, 0.900 fine silver, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.
Recorded Mintage: 3,037,380[1], a common date.
