This specimen was lot 34153 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. 2 Francs, 1812-H. La Rochelle Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS AU-58. The only representative of the date and mint in the PCGS census, this stunningly breathtaking near-Mint specimen provides enchanting eye appeal through its high degree of remaining brilliance and elegant burnished toning around portions of the devices. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Lepczyk in 1984 for $170). Ex: George Sobin Collection (Lepczyk - 3/1984) Lot # 1257." In 1809, the reverse legend was changed from "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE" to "EMPIRE FRANCAISE" and struck in this form until 1814. It is the most common Napoleonic two francs after the Year 12. This date is somewhat scarce.

Recorded mintage: 81,325.

Specification: 10 g, 0.900 fine silver, 27 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE. Designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier, 1763-1819.
