Stack's Bowers September 2025 ANA sale, lot 43399

This specimen was lot 43399 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE. Empire. Franc, 1811-A. Paris Mint. Napoleon I. PCGS MS-63. Surpassed in the PCGS census by just a single example, this glistening and highly Choice specimen offers an opulent array of dazzling brilliance and surfaces that remain nearly blast white. From the Richard Margolis Collection (acquired from Bernard Southgate on 17 August 1973 for $27)." This type was struck 1809-14 during the reign of Napoleon I from numerous mints. Many issues of this type are known from a handful (<10) of examples but this is the second highest mintage date.

Recorded mintage: 1,347,047, a common date.

Specifications: 5 g, 0.900 fine silver, 23 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE, designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier (1763-1819).
