Stack's Bowers May 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 34315

This specimen was lot 34315 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2024), where it sold for $145. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Guerrero. Campo Morado. 50 Centavos, 1915-CM GRO. NGC AU Details--Cleaned. Variety with "UN PESO" effaced from die below eagle. Evidence of cleaning appears throughout, but this copper minor escapes much signs of actual wear. Fully detailed and well-struck for the type." This type, accompanied by copper ten, twenty and five centavos, is common but normally comes wretched. Many varieties exist.
