This coin was issued by the Zapatistas under conditions where they were unable to part the gold from the silver, so they simply minted the alloy they had. As with any coin struck from hand made dies, numerous varieties exist. Most were promptly melted down as the gold content made them worth more than face value. The second specimen was lot 36336 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Guerrero. 2 Pesos, 1915-CM GRO. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, EF Details."
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver and gold.
Catalog reference: KM-662.
