This specimen was lot 11443 in Ponterio sale 169 (Baltimore, November 2012), where it sold for $10,575. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Revolution. Guerrero, Cacahuatepec. Peso, 1917. NGC AU Details--Surface Hairlines. VERY RARE. Toned." This coin was issued in limited quantities in the closing stages of the revolution at the town of Cacahuatepec in Guerrero state south of Mexico City. It is actually heavier than the official peso (KM 454) of 1918-19, which was 18.13 g. The most common issue from this locale is the five centavos (KM 648). A scarce silver fifty centavos was also issued (KM 650).
