Künker sale 293, lot 655

This specimen was lot 655 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €240 (about US$324 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, HERZOGTUM Johann Friedrich, 1665-1679. 2/3 Taler 1675, Hannover. Winz. Schrötlingsfehler, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg, two-thirds thaler of 1675, Hannover mint. Small edge defects, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type was struck 1675-76 in numerous varieties; some with the bust facing left, others with the bust facing right along with various arrangements of sailing ships on the reverse. These two-thirds thalers (or gulden) are often more available than the larger thalers.
