This specimen was lot 70593 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony-Albertine. 2/3 Taler, 1677-CR. Johann Georg II (1656-80). NGC MS-61. Bold strike with dark attractive tone and strong underlying luster." This type was struck 1675-78 and is fairly scarce. There was a fad in north Germany to strike gulden (2/3 thaler) in the 1670's and Saxony issued a few but not so many as other states.
