Stack's Bowers September 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 75050

This specimen was lot 75050 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Saxony. 2/3 Taler, 1677. Johann Georg II. NGC Unc Details--Cleaned." This type was struck 1675-78 and is fairly scarce. There was a fad in north Germany to strike gulden (⅔ thaler) in the 1670's and Saxony issued a few but not so many as other states.
