Künker sale 386, lot 5160

This specimen was lot 5160 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €260 (about US$336 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-CALENBERG-HANNOVER, Johann Friedrich, 1665-1679. 24 Mariengroschen 1675, Clausthal. Dickstück. Hübsche Patina, sehr schön +. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 84, Osnabrück 2003, Nr. 3599 (dort mit falschem Welterzitat). (duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg, John Frederick, 1665-79, 24 mariengroschen of 1675, Clausthal mint, thick planchet. Handsome patina, choice very fine.)"

The SCWC notes several issues of this denomination for this period: KM 140 (St. Andrew reverse), KM 158 (shown here), KM 155 (leaping stallion, broad planchet, rare), KM 157 (value and date in six lines), KM 168 (bust obverse), KM 169 (bust obverse, large ship on reverse). While not rare, this type of 1674-75 has an above average value.
