Mexico 1879-As L 5 centavos

from the Stack's Bowers sale of the Kirk Menczer Collection, lot 71037

This specimen was lot 71067 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Mule -- Struck with Gold Peso Obverse -- 5 Centavos, 1879-As L. Alamos Mint. NGC AU Details--Cleaned. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." The gold peso obverse die was used for the five centavos at Alamos for 1878-80 and 1886. The Alamos mint was closed in 1895.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a scarce date.

Specification: 1.35 g, 0.903 fine silver, 14 mm diameter, reeded edge.
