This specimen is from a series struck 1864-66 for the Maximilian regime. The first specimen was lot 6473 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $345. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Maximilian. 5 Centavos, 1864-M. Toned, sharply struck. NGC MS-64." Altho this type was demonetized as soon as the Juaristas recaptured Mexico City, it is normally found quite worn, suggesting that it circulated for many years anyway.
Specification: 1.35 g, 0.903 fine silver, 14 mm diameter, .039 troy oz ASW.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
