Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from Durango is rare, not priced in the SCWC. This specimen was lot 9170 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $1,495. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Durango. 50 Centavos, 1879-DoB. EXTREMELY RARE date and one of the finest known. A few small edge marks, lightly toned, nice strike. BOLD VERY FINE.”

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, 30.5 mm diameter, .393 troy oz ASW.
