This specimen was lot 72485 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1868-Ca MM. Chihuahua Mint. Republic. PCGS Genuine--Scratch, Unc Details Gold Shield. Some scratches as noted are evident, but this piece nevertheless offers a charming steel gray tone with an alluring golden highlight near the peripheries." The Chihuahua mint struck eight reales 1831-95. This is a scarce date but not rare like 1865 or 1866. Assayer JG is also noted for 1868. Assayer MM operated 1868-76.
