This specimen is a common date of a series struck 1869-90 at the Mexico City mint. This twenty-five centavos piece replaced the two reales struck since colonial times. It, in turn, was replaced by a smaller twenty centavos piece in 1898. This specimen was lot 9113 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $184. This specimen is a common date of a series struck 1869-90 at the Mexico City mint. This twenty-five centavos piece replaced the two reales struck since colonial times. It, in turn, was replaced by a smaller twenty centavos piece in 1898. This specimen was lot 9113 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $184. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Mexico City. 25 Centavos, 1882-MoM. NGC MS-63."
