Mexico 1872-Go S 5 centavos

from the Stack's Bowers sale of the Kirk Collection, lot 71122

This specimen was lot 71122 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $264. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 5 Centavos, 1872-Go S. Guanajuato Mint. NGC AU Details--Cleaned. Only example in NGC census. Scarce date. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." The 1872-G^O and the 1873-G^O are the two scarcest dates from Guanajuato, which struck this type 1869-81 and 1886-97. Guanajuato is one of four mints which also struck the five centavos with the revised eagle used 1898-1905.

Recorded mintage: 30,000, a scarce date.

Specification: 2.70 g, 0.903 fine silver, 18 mm diameter, reeded edge.
