Stack's Bowers April 2021 Hong Kong sale, lot 51405

This specimen was lot 51405 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $7,800. The catalog description[1] noted,

"CHINA. 100 Yuan, 1995. Lunar Series, Year of the Pig. PCGS PROOF-68 Deep Cameo Gold Shield. A popular and entrancing type, this sharply struck example features hard mirrored fields along with frosted cameo devices."

The lunar series, featuring the Year of the Pig for 1995, was issued in many denominations in silver and gold. Scalloped versions were minted 1993-96 but dropped thereafter.

Recorded mintage: 1,800.

Specification: 15.55 g, 0.999 fine gold, 0.50 troy oz AGW.
