This specimen was lot 51450 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $24,000. The catalog description[1] noted, ""One Country - Two Systems" Return of Hong Kong 5 Ounce Proof. CHINA. 500 Yuan Gold Proof, 1995. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. Struck to commemorate the return of Hong Kong to China. A brilliant and attractive 5 Ounce Proof with hard mirrored fields and frosted cameo devices. Serial number on rim at 6 o'clock reads "120"." The peaceful reabsorption of Hong Kong into China was a huge coup for the communist regime and was celebrated in several NCLT's.
