This specimen was lot 30618 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $1,175. The catalog description[1] noted, "People's Republic gold "Year of the Dog" Scalloped Proof 100 Yuan 1994 PR67 Deep Cameo PCGS, Pan page 151, #1, flower shape. Obv. Phoenix pavilion with date below. Rev. Dog, with denomination at left. Stunning cameo appearance, with no egregious flaws. Mintage of only 2,300 pieces." The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more. This issue is accompanied by a gold one ounce coin (KM 648) that is not scalloped.
