Sincona sale 83, lot 2504

This specimen was lot 2504 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 2,600 CHF (about US$3,480 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "CHINA Volksrepublik, 50 Yuan 1994, Shanghai Mint. Panda. Grosse Jahreszahl (Large date). NGC MS69." The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more. Other fifty yuan for 1994 include KM 617, 637, 638, 639, 640, 641, 644, 669, 679, 680, 687, 696, 697, 698.

Recorded mintage: 16,788 plus proofs.

Specification: 15.55 g, 0.999 fine gold, 0.500 troy oz AGW.
