Künker sale 406, lot 3736

This specimen was lot 3736 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €1,300 (about US$1,706 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"CHINA, Volksrepublik. 50 Yuan 1993. Erfindungen und Entdeckungen des Altertums, Terrakotta Armee. 15,55 g Feingold. GOLD. Nur 1.200 Exemplare geprägt. Mit Originalzertifikat. Polierte Platte. (people's republic of China, fifty yuan of 1993, ancient inventions and discoveries, terracotta army. Only 1,200 pieces struck, proof.)"

This NCLT is one of a series honoring Chinese inventions and discoveries. Wikipedia comments, "The Terracotta Army is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China. It is a form of funerary art buried with the emperor in 210–209 BCE with the purpose of protecting him in his afterlife."
