Regensburg (1711-12) thaler Dav-2612
The first specimen was lot 998 in Jean Elsen price list 259 (Brussels, January-March 2012), where it was offered at € 6,000. The catalog[1] noted,
"ALLEMAGNE, RATISBONNE (REGENSBURG), Ville impériale, AR Taler, s.d. (vers 1711-1712), Au titre de Charles VI. Droit: B. l., drapé et cuirassé à droite. Revers: Cartouche orné aux armes de la ville. Extrêmement Rare. Belle patine. Superbe à Fleur de Coin (Germany, City of Regensburg, silver thaler, undated (c. 1711-12), in the name of Charles VI. Obverse: laureate, draped and armored bust to right; reverse: ornate arms of the city. Extremely rare, nice toning, EF - Unc.)"
The second specimen was lot 3276 in Sincona sale 51 (Zürich, October 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[2] noted,
"Taler o. J. (um 1711-1712). Mit Titel Karls VI. Variierendes Brustbild mit nach vorn gezogener Schulter, darunter die Signatur Ö (Stempelschneider Christoph Daniel Öxlein). Beckenbauer 6166. Selten. Fast vorzüglich. Kleine Kratzer. Feine Patina. (Germany, city of Regensburg, undated thaler, struck in the name of Charles VI, variety with the king's shoulder pulled forward, engraver's initial below. Rare, About extremely fine, Small scratches, Nice toning.)"
This type is rare as stated. It is accompanied by a double thaler (Dav-2611) and triple thaler (Dav-2610). Varieties exist with the engraver's initials added. Regensburg passed to Bavaria in 1803.
