Regensburg 1714 thaler Dav-2609
This specimen was lot 3200 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €4,400 (about US$5,773 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS KARLS I. Reichstaler 1714, mit Titel Karls VI. Münzmeister Johann Michael Federer. Stempelschneider Christoph Daniel Oexlein. Selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Prachtexemplar. Hübsche Patina, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Möglicherweise war der Anlaß zur Prägung dieses Talers der Friedensschluß von Baden, der den Spanischen Erbfolgekrieg beendete und durch den Kurfürst Maximilian Emanuel wieder in seine bayerischen Gebiete eingesetzt wurde. (city of Regensburg, thaler of 1714, struck in the name of Charles VI. Scarce, especially in this quality, cabinet example, handsome patina, extremely fine to uncirculated. Possibly the reason for minting this thaler was the Peace Treaty of Baden, which ended the War of the Spanish Succession and reinstated Elector Maximilian Emanuel in his Bavarian territories.)"
This type was struck 1714, 1716 and 1737. Note the baroque cartouche on the obverse.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
