Sincona sale 26, lot 2012

This specimen was lot 2011 in Sincona sale 25 (Zürich, October 2015), where it sold for 24,000 CHF (about US$29,645 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"4 Ducats o. J. (nach 1711). Title Charles VI. Mint master Johann Michael Federer. Die cutter probably Johann Pichler. *MONETA ·­REIPVBLICÆ­ ·RATISBONENSIS* City arms of Regensburg in a rococo cartouche. Rev. (uncertain Symbol) CAROLVS·VI·D·G· - ROM·IMP·SEMP·AVG·­ Crowned, nimbate double eagle, on its breast the crowned arms of Habsburg/Lorraine, imperial orb above. The whole surrounded by the Order of the Golden Fleece. Sword and sceptre in the talons. Below on r. mintmark wing (Johann Michael Federer). Extremely rare. Extremely fine. Rim has been repaired."

Like most of the gold issues from this city during the eighteenth century, this type is rare.
