Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 42647

This specimen was lot 42647 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1894-Cn AM. Culiacan Mint. PCGS MS-62. From the Helena Collection." The Culiacan mint struck eight reales 1846-97 and is one of the abundant mints for that denomination; this date is common in all grades. The Culiacan mint closed in 1905, the last branch mint, along with Zacatecas, to do so.

Recorded mintage: 2,118,000.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver.
