Stack's Bowers November 2022 Collectors Choice sale, lot 72775
SB1122-72775r.jpg

This specimen was lot 72775 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 10 Centavos, 1894-Mo M. Mexico City Mint. PCGS MS-63. A charming Choice example, delivering soft reflectivity and sharp details throughout." This ten centavos piece replaced the silver one real struck since colonial times. Several transitional designs were issued 1863-70, including one by the Maximilian regime, before settling on this type. It, in turn, was replaced by a ten centavos piece with a redesigned reverse in 1898. An 1894/3 overdate is reported.

Recorded mintage: 350,000, a slightly better date.

Specification: 2.707 g, 0.903 fine silver, 18 mm diameter, .078 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM-403.7.
