This specimen was lot 24739 in Heritage sale 3016 (New York, January 2012), where it sold for $747.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 8 Reales 1894 Ho-FG, MS65 NGC. Some prooflike reflectivity with a touch of golden toning over full mint luster and boldly defined details." We hasten to assure collectors contemplating this series that this date from the Hermosillo mint normally sells for a fraction of the price realized above. The Hermosillo mint issued this type 1861-95 and most dates after 1873 are readily available.

Recorded mintage: 504,000.
