Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from San Luis Potosí is common for the mint. The first specimen was lot 9219 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $1,265. The catalog description^[1] noted, “MEXICO. Potosi. 50 Centavos, 1887-PiR. Rare mint in top condition. Nice strike, very attractive. NGC MS-63.”

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 32,000.
