Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from Alamos is the first from the mint, which struck the type intermittently until 1888. Like most fifty centavos, high grade specimens are extremely rare. Other mints include Hermosillo, Zacatecas, Durango, Mexico City, Chihuahua, Guanajuato, Culiacan and Potosi. The second specimen was lot 9138 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $575. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Alamos. 50 Centavos, 1875-AsL. Toned. NGC AU-58."

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.
