Ponterio sale 155, lot 6193

This specimen was lot 6193 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $690. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Alamos. 8 Reales, 1875-DL. 'As' mint mark. RARE in this grade. Ex. Pittman Collection. Lightly toned. NGC MS-63." The Alamos mint struck eight reales 1864-95. Many of the early dates are rare but the 1875-A is fairly common. This variety, with the "As" mintmark, is quite scarce.
