Steve Album sale 38, lot 3772

This specimen was lot 3772 in Stephen Album sale 38 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2020), where it sold for $107.10. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO: Republic, AR ½ real, 1838/7-Go, assayer PJ, bold overdate, with 7 showing clearly under 8, rainbow toned reverse, NGC graded MS62." The Guanaguato mint struck this denomination 1826-62 and 1867-68 and most dates are common. This date appears with some regularity in high grade. The eagle shown is distinctive to the Guanajuato mint, which reverted to the standard eagle in 1843.
