This specimen was part of lot 72332 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), which sold for $732. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Octet of Reales (8 Pieces), 1838-62. Guadalajara Mint. Grade Range: GOOD to VERY FINE. 1) 1838/7-Ga JG. 2) 1841-Ga MC. 3) 1845-Ga JG. 4) 1847-Ga JG. 5) 1853-Ga JG. 6) 1857-Ga JG. 7) 1858/7-Ga JG. 8) 1862-Ga JG. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." The Guadalajara mint produced one reales nearly continuously 1826-62. The SCWC mentions only the 1838/7 for this rare date. Assayer JG (Juan de Dios Guzman) served 1836-63. Unlike the half real, where gem specimens turn up occasionally, one reales nearly always appear heavily circulated.
