This specimen was lot 8138 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $115. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Guadalajara. 1/2 Real, 1838/7-GaJG. FINE." This specimen was struck at the Guadalajara mint in 1838, one of a type struck there 1825-62. Assayer JG is listed for 1837-39, 1842-43 and 1845-62. The SCWC lists only the overdate.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 1.69 g, 0.903 fine silver, .049 troy oz ASW.
