This specimen was lot 41290 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2024), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "Very Rare Private Issue Pattern Struck in Brass, MEXICO. Mexico City. Brass 1/4 Real Pattern, 1838-Mo. NGC MS-61. Non-circulating private issue pattern. Corded Edge variety. A VERY RARE offering of this enigmatic issue. Retaining Mint State originality, it delivers a crisp strike with much beautiful detail to admire. The highly lustrous surfaces project a vibrant persimmon coloration with spots of darker tone dotted throughout. A few bag marks and tiny planchet cracks are noted, but only add to the coin's charm and originality. From the EMO Collection." This obverse design was also used on several proposed municipal tokens, such as KM NC10.
