This specimen was lot 164 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 21 (Winter Park, FL, May 2017), where it sold for $1,410. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico City, Mexico, 8 escudos, 1838ML. Lightly toned AU- with grainy surfaces, lustrous at rims." The Mexico City mint struck eight escudos 1824-69 and is one of the abundant mints for that denomination; most dates are common.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.875 fine gold, .760 troy oz AGW, this specimen 26.97 grams.
