This specimen was lot 73048 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $414.80. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 2 Reales, 1838-Ga JG. Guadalajara Mint. NGC VF Details--Reverse Scratched. Very rare date. Only example graded by NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca did not strike this type. The Guadalajara mint produced two reales nearly continuously 1825-62. Assayer JG (Juan de Dios Guzman) served 1836-63. The SCWC lists the 1838-G^A as a common date for the mint.
