This specimen was lot 73299 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $439.20. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 4 Reales, 1838/7-Zs OM. Zacatecas Mint. NGC EF-45. Finest and only numerically graded of only two examples at NGC. Rare overdate. Well struck with underlying luster. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Shown is an 1838-P^I JS 4 reales, one of a type struck at the Potosi mint 1837-38, 1842-64, 1868-69. Ten mints (Mexico City, Guanajuato, Zacatecas, Potosi, Oaxaca, Hermosillo, Real del Catorce, Guadalupe y Calvo, Guadalajara and Culiacan) struck this type of which Zacatecas is tied with Guanajuato as the commonest mint. This overdate is listed in the SCWC as scarce but not rare; no regular date exists. Assayer OM (Manuel Ochoa and Manuel Miner) is recorded for 1830-55.
