Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 72309

This specimen was lot 72309 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $390.40. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Real, 1832-Ga FS. Guadalajara Mint. NGC VF-30. Scarce. Only example graded by NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." The Guadalajara mint produced one reales nearly continuously 1826-62. The SCWC mentions this date as very scarce although less so than the very rare 1835-G^A. This example is missing the "A" in the mintmark. Assayer FS served 1825-36. This type, legal tender in the pre Civil War United States for a "bit" (one eighth of a dollar), is common except in uncirculated. Unlike the half real, where gem specimens turn up occasionally, one reales nearly always appear heavily circulated.
