Künker sale 354, lot 5709

This specimen was lot 5709 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €440 (about US$612 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, Georg II. 1727-1760. 1/6 Taler 1729, Clausthal. Von großer Seltenheit. Herrliche Patina, vorzüglich. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 69, Osnabrück 2001, Nr. 4797. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg, George II, 1727-60, one sixth thaler of 1729, Clausthal mint. Extremely rare, superb patina, extremely fine.)"

This type was struck with the leaping stallion reverse 1727 and 1729. This denomination was also struck with a St. Andrew reverse (KM 207), a wild man reverse (KM 179) and a bust obverse (KM 177). The elector George II was also king George II of England.
