Künker sale 354, lot 5708

This specimen was lot 5708 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €280 (about US$390 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, Georg II. 1727-1760. 1/3 Taler 1729, Clausthal. Ausbeute der Grube St. Andreas. RR Sehr schön +. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Erworben von H. Priesmeier. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, George II, 1727-60, one third thaler of 1729, Clausthal mint, for the St. Andrew mine. Very rare, very fine or better.)"

This type was struck with the St. Andrew reverse in 1729 only. The year also saw this denomination struck with a bust obverse (KM 182). The elector George II was also king George II of England.
