This specimen was lot 2564 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 950 CHF (about US$1,271 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Braunschweig-Lüneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, Herzogtum, Georg II. 1727-1760. 1/3 Taler 1729, Clausthal. Feinsilber. Mit der Münzmeistersignatur CPS. Selten (Rare). NGC MS63. Herrliche Patina (Most attractively toned)." The 12 mariengroschen was terminated after 1715. This one-third thaler, which superseded it, was struck 1727-29. This is a rare date. Another one-third thaler, also dated 1729-CPS, has a St. Andrew reverse.
