This specimen was lot 687 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €550 (about US$741 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, HERZOGTUM Georg II. 1727-1760. Reichstaler 1729, Zellerfeld. ; . R Kl. Schrötlingsfehler, sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, electorate of Brunswick-Luneburg, George II, 1727-60, thaler of 1729, Zellerfeld mint. Scarce, edge defects, very fine to extremely fine.)"

"Wild man" thalers (Dav-2077) were minted extensively for George I but this is the first "wild man" thaler of George II. It was issued 1727 and 1729 and is scarce. The more common "wild man" thaler (Dav-2092) of George II has a simplified reverse.
