This specimen was lot 685 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €260 (about US$351 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, HERZOGTUM Georg II. 1727-1760. 2/3 Taler 1728, Clausthal. RR Sehr schön. (Germany, electorate of Brunswick-Luneburg, George II, 1727-60, two-thirds thaler of 1728, Clausthal mint. Rare, very fine.)"
The two-thirds thaler or gulden was minted extensively in Hannover in several concurrent types. For 1728, "leaping stallion" gulden (shown here), "wild man" gulden (KM 187) and "bust" gulden (KM 185) exist, of which this is the most common.
