This specimen was lot 74690 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $336. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Calenberg-Hannover. 2/3 Taler, 1728-EPH. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg II. PCGS AU-55. Popular Wildman design. Issued by Georg II, who was Duke of Brunswick, and King George II of Great Britain. Desirable ash gray toning." This is one of three designs used on this denomination in 1727-29: KM 185 features the elector's bust, KM 186 features a leaping stallion reverse, and KM 187, shown here, features the wild man on the reverse. The "24" indicates 24 mariengroschen.
