Hannover 1730-CPS 1/3 thaler KM-223
This specimen was lot 5710 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,900 (about US$2,644 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, Georg II. 1727-1760. 1/3 Taler 1730, Clausthal. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 77, Osnabrück 2002, Nr. 2194. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, George II, 1727-60, one third thaler of 1730, Clausthal mint. Very scarce, especially in this quality, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
This type was struck with the elector's bust 1730 and 1736. This denomination was also struck with a leaping stallion reverse (KM 247), a wild man reverse (KM 225) and a St. Andrew reverse (KM 240). The elector George II was also king George II of England.
